OUTREACH

The communities that the Kerti Praja Foundation works with are extremely vulnerable to HIV&AIDS and STI Infection. The sex work industry in Bali is unique and diverse with women working in concentrated brothel-like sites as well as indirect sex workers employed in massage parlors and karaoke bars.  It is estimated that currently there are around 6,000 women working in the sex industry; 3,500 are indirect sex workers and 2,500 are self identified direct sex workers. Through our outreach work we reach approximately 2,000 female sex workers per month.

Kerti Praja also carries out outreach activities for high risk men (male clients of female sex workers), and gay and transgender communities. Click below for more information on each of the outreach programs:

* Direct Female Sex Workers (FSW)
* Indirect Female Sex Workers (FSW)
* High Risk Men (HR Men)
* Gay/Transgender/MSM

The teams provide on-site education about HIV&AIDS emphasizing how the virus is transmitted and prevention practices. Preventative measures are focused on promoting condom use, distributing condoms and empowering individuals to insist on condom use every time. Just recently, the Kerti Praja Foundation began an initiative of socializing and distributing Female Condoms for both female sex worker and MSM communities and is about to establish a peer educator program in order to promote its use as another option for safe sex.
